Job Description

We are pleased to announce two open PhD positions at the University of Bologna (UNIBO, Italy), starting in Fall 2025, within the PhD programme in Electronics, Telecommunications, and Information Technologies Engineering (ET-IT).

Both positions are part of the ERC Starting Grant project CUE-GO "Contextual Radio Cues for Enhancing Decision-Making in Networks of Autonomous Agents" which explores how contextual electromagnetic signals can improve autonomous decision-making in intelligent agent networks (e.g., drones).

Position 1: Machine Learning for Semantic Mapping and Localization in Networks of Autonomous Agents (Joint supervision with CNR-IEIIT)
- Supervisors: Prof. Anna Guerra, Dr. Francesco Guidi
- Main topics: High-resolution semantic mapping of environments; Localization and navigation algorithms using signal processing and ML techniques

Position 2: Distributed Signal Processing and Machine Learning for Networks of Autonomous Agents
- Supervisors: Prof. Anna Guerra, Prof. Davide Dardari
- Main topics: Autonomous decision-making based on environmental radio cues; Hybrid model-based and data-driven navigation methods; Agent collaboration models and self-evaluation techniques

Candidate Profile (both positions):
- MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related fields
- Strong background in signal processing, wireless systems, applied mathematics, and/or machine learning
- Programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab, C++)
- Motivation to engage in high-impact, cutting-edge research
