PhD Studentships in Signal Processing and Machine Learning

Programme of Electrical Engineering, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Applications are invited for PhD studentships in signal processing and machine learning. These studentships are funded by the CNPq/CAPES research councils in Brazil. The topic of the study is open within the general areas of signal processing and machine learning and their applications to electronic systems, data science and sensor systems. Potential topics include but are not limited to:

- Adaptive learning techniques
- Distributed and federated learning
- Optimization algorithms
- Sensor array signal processing
- Reinforcement and deep learning

Deadline for application: 30th November 2024

Start date: early March 2025

This is international opportunity for a candidate with (or expecting) an MEng or MSc with First Class Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related areas. Amongst the key technical disciplines are an excellent level of mathematics, development of algorithms and design of electronic systems. The successful candidate will be based at PUC-Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will collaborate and visit international partners, and is expected to attend international conferences.

The studentships are open to everyone, cover the tuition fees, and give a stipend of about US$ 750 per month for 4 years. Additional funding might be available with industrial projects and requires extra 4-6 hours per week.
