Job Description

Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), at University of Lisbon, is offering a research grant for Masters in the context of the project “MOG – QC on the GO”, Ref. SIIDT/2013/034075, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under Quadro de Referência Estratégico Nacional (QREN), in Portugal.

Admission requirements: Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or on a similar engineering field.

Workplan: Project “MOG – QC on the GO” consists on the implementation of an automatic quality assessment system for audiovisual signals, during coding and transcoding processes. The project is supported by four entities: MOG Technologies (project leader), IST, ISCTE-IUL and Instituto Pedro Nunes.
The researcher will join the Multimedia Signal Processing Group at IST / IT (http://www.img.lx.it.pt/) and will be assigned with tasks associated to the quality assessment of video signals. The work plan assumes that the researcher will participate in the following tasks:

1. State of the art revision and identification of the main artifacts/degradations of the video signal.

2. Conception of components for a modular library for video quality assessment.

3. Implementation of the library components and integration in the “QC on-the-Go” system.

4. Writing of technical papers and participation in scientific meetings.

Place of work: The work will be developed at the Multimedia Signal Processing Group (http://www.img.lx.it.pt/) of the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), under the supervision of Professor Paula Queluz. IT is located on the IST site, Av. Rovisco Pais 1, Lisbon, Portugal.

Grant duration: 6 months, and can be renewed. The estimated beginning date is November 2013.

Value for monthly allowance: 980 Euros (net) plus Social Insurance.

Selection methods: Selection will be performed by a jury, based on the applicants’ CVs and considering the following applicant skills:

• Programming skills with C and/or C++ languages. Experience with Matlab will also be considered.

• Experience in the multimedia signal processing signal field, especially on digital video processing. Knowledge of H.264 and MPEG-2 video coding standards will also be considered.

If necessary, any applicant may also be subject to an interview, in order to complement the evaluation of its CV.
